Members warned over threatening scam letter

Bira members are being advised to ignore a scam letters threatening legal action if they do not buy an air purifer in line with Covid-19 regulations.

The seemingly legitimate letter is sent out on paper headed by the Government's Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) - but is, in fact, a scam.

It says that, by law, retailers must purcahse an air purifier to comply with Covid safety regualtions. However, this is not true. The department issued the following tweet.

The BEIS has advised that any recipients of these letters should report them to Action Fraud.
