The independent retail industry will focus on the future at bira’s National Conference and Awards
Tickets are now available for the British Independent Retailers Association’s (bira) National Conference and Awards on the 10th May 2018 at the Jury’s Inn in Hinckley Island, Leicestershire. Headlining this year’s Conference is Levi Roots, who took his brand to unimaginable heights after appearing on Dragon’s Den in 2006. Sharing his recipe for business success, Levi will kick off the Conference line-up of engaging and inspirational speakers, who will focus on the future of retail.
Surinder Josan, from All Season’s DIY in Smethwick, who will become bira’s National President for 2018-2019 at the Conference says: “Our line-up of speakers this year will focus on what the future has in store for independent retail and the steps we can take to prepare for this, as well as the opportunities available to us at this time of real change. It is time for retailers to embrace these changes, we can no longer stand still.
“With the aim of inspiring you, it will give you some great ideas to implement back in your business and give you the opportunity to meet and share ideas with other independent retailers in exactly the same boat as you.”
The Conference will bring back the popular Breakout Sessions of Grow, Innovate and Challenge from the 2017 programme. With a host of inspiring sessions that delegates can pick and choose from, delegates will return to their business with new ideas to help them face the future.
Surinder Josan added: “Hear from the likes of Trouva and Vend who will talk about retail tech trends and using the internet to enhance your business. Promoting yourself online and using the tools available to you will be covered as well as a not-to-be-missed cyber-crime prevention session, making sure you feel safe using the internet.”
The internet won’t be the only discussions on the day, energy efficiency, as well as the latest technology preventing retail crime will also be a key focus.
The day will be hosted by Hardeep Sing Kohli, an award winning stand-up comedian and successful entrepreneur who is responsible for one of the most successful Indian restaurant chains in Glasgow.
The jam-packed day will be rounded off by the annual bira Awards, which recognise and reward the best in the independent retail industry, showcasing the talent, hard work, innovation and achievements of bira members and suppliers. The awards will be hosted by broadcaster, writer and Church of England Vicar Reverend Richard Coles. The award categories are Independent retail business of the year, Independent team of the year, Independent retail employee of the year, Charitable champion and Local hero, as well as the bira direct supplier awards. Entries to these awards are now open.
