bira’s magazine and newsletter are officially award-winning!
bira’s membership magazine, as well as the membership newsletter came away with silvers at the annual Association Excellence Awards, held at the Kia Oval in Kennington, London on Friday 12 October.
Some of the team behind the magazine and newsletter attended the event and were delighted to celebrate the honours after picking up the two silver awards from the following categories:

Best Association Newsletter
The awards recognise and reward the hard-won achievements of UK trade bodies, professionals membership organisations and associations. Representing associations from every sector, these awards recognise individuals, teams and initiatives and highlight excellence in how trade bodies operate and serve their members.
Talking about the magazine, the award’s judges said: “A great looking magazine with an effective use of members by making them the main focus and highlighting content written by members, for members. The magazine has a modern and contemporary look and feel complemented with their online offering. Definitely tailored to their audience. Good historical context and the team delivering the magazine was well described. The integration with other communication channels was well considered and executed. The reader feedback was positive. The magazine itself is engaging and vibrant. There is a nice feel to it which carries through the publication with excellent use of photography.”
The judges’ also commented on the newsletter: “It is fortnightly, mobile compatible and in an e-format that benefits members. There is a good member focus with innovative features and the engagement has increased over the years.”
Kate Godber, Senior Communications and PR Officer said: “We were absolutely thrilled to come away with two awards. We are very proud of our member communications and to see this recognised by the esteemed judging panel is very special. Members are at the heart of everything we do and the magazine is the epitome of that.”
Andrew Goodacre, CEO said: “To be shortlisted for best magazine, newsletter and website and to win silver awards for two out of three is a real achievement. We proudly support our independent retail members with informative, engaging and relevant content through all of our communication channels and to have the work recognised is a testament to the marketing & publishing team. I’m sure our wonderful members will join me in congratulating them.”
We’d like to thank all members who are both readers of the magazine and newsletter for your continued support. Here’s to next year when we’ll go for gold!
