The comments, which appeared on page 5 of the Daily Telegraph on January 23, follow research from the RAC Foundation that found local authorities made £891 million from on and off-street parking in the year 2019-2020.

Andrew said that councils still made 'a huge amount of money from people visiting town centres'.

Bira has repeatedly called for improved parking and accessibility to high streets as part of its manifesto. The aim is to encourage shoppers to visit their local independent retailers without concern of limited parking spaces of the burden of inflated charges.
