Wales and Scotland to extend final stages of lockdown

Wales will extend its final stage of lockdown for at least another four weeks, it has been announced.

The Welsh Government is to follow England in delaying the end of lockdown restrictions until at least July 19, 2021.

Scotland has today (Tuesday, June 22) decided to follow the same dates for reaching 'level zero' of restrictions. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said that she hopes any remaining rules by August 9, 2021.

As in England, the final phase of coronavirus restrictions were set to be lifted on Monday (June 21, 2021) at the earliest.

The delay has been decided following an increase in the number of coronavirus cases of the Delta (Indian) variant.
