Reserve your place at the bira conference and awards

There is not long left to reserve your place at this year’s bira conference and awards, the informative and entertaining event every independent retailer should attend.

On Thursday 10 May retailers, suppliers and industry partners will come together at the Jurys Inn, Hinckley Island, Leicestershire to celebrate everything that is great about the sector and to look to the future.

Musician turned entrepreneur Levi Roots, founder of Reggae Reggae Sauce, will head the strong line-up of speakers, all giving tangible tips for retailers to implement themselves.

Recently added to the line-up are members Emma Woodward and Samantha Yair, owners of Aspire Style, a chain of independent lifestyle boutiques, who will be presenting the Retailer Address. Winners of the 2016 bira award for Independent Business of the Year, Emma and Samantha, who met at infants’ school, will talk about how they have grown their business from one store in 2004 to five today.

The focus of the day’s proceedings is The Future and delegates will be able to explore the latest retail trends, learn how to better promote their business online, find out how to make their business more energy efficient and protect their business from cyber-crime.
The conference element of the day kicks off at 9.30am with bira’s annual general meeting and bira direct suppliers’ conference. Keynote speakers and sessions will run until 4.10pm.

The day programme allows delegates to pick and choose from the breakout sessions of Grow, Innovate and Challenge, allowing them to tailor their day to suit their business needs. Please note that space is limited in the sessions, so delegates should move quickly between speakers to avoid disappointment.

The event will be rounded off with the glittering bira awards ceremony hosted by Reverend Richard Coles, once of The Communards and Strictly Come Dancing.

The awards recognise the talent and hard work of independent retailers and suppliers that support the sector. Categories include independent retail business of the year, independent retail employee of the year, independent team of the year and the charity awards for Charitable Champion and Local Hero. The awards drinks reception begins at 6.45pm, followed by dinner, the awards ceremony and networking until late.

Conference tickets cost from £135 per person (exc VAT). A combined conference and awards ticket costs £235 per person (exc VAT).
