Home Office survey about crime against business

British Independent Retailers Association (bira) are endorsing the Commercial Victimisation Survey, an annual survey about crime experienced by businesses in England and Wales, which is run by Ipsos MORI on behalf of the Home Office.

Taking part in the 2018 Commercial Victimisation Survey is your opportunity to help the Home Office to understand the nature, extent and cost of crime against businesses and to tackle crime in our sector.

Each year, the results are used to:

  • monitor crime trends,
  • identify what needs to be done to reduce crime,
  • find out what support, advice and information would be most helpful to businesses like yours.

Last year’s findings can be found at the Home Office webpages, here: https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/crime-against-businesses-findings-from-the-2017-commercial-victimisation-survey.

In particular, the Wholesale and Retail sector experienced 8.1 million incidents of crime in 2017, the majority of which were thefts by customers.

If your business is randomly selected to take part, an interviewer from the independent research organisation Ipsos MORI will call you between September and December 2018 to conduct an interview (lasting around 20 minutes) over the telephone.

The Home Office wants to speak with as many businesses as possible, whether or not your business has been a victim of crime, in order to get an accurate representation and they would be very grateful if you would agree to take part.
