Self-Employment Income Support Scheme to open

The online portal to apply for the Government’s Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) opens tomorrow (Wednesday, May 13).

Those who may be eligible for the scheme should have received a text, letter or email from HMRC with details of the application process.

It is understood that, if successful, the claim will be paid by May 25 – or six working days after the application is made.

To qualify for support:

  • Individuals need to earn at least half of their income through self-employment, and have annual trading profits of no more than £50,000
  • They must have traded in the 2018-19 tax year and submitted their self-assessment tax return for that year on or before April 23, 2020
  • You intend to continue to trade in the tax year 2020 to 2021
  • You carry on a trade which has been adversely affected by coronavirus

The portal is set to open tomorrow morning – earlier than originally scheduled.
