More flexible working required
A recent survey carried out on behalf of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has found that the majority of workers aged over 50 would welcome more flexibility in the workplace. The survey asked more than 12,000 workers over the age of 50 if they’d like more flexible hours and 3 out of 4 who responded said they would. Additionally, another 3 or 4 want to see more part time positions offered – perhaps a real opportunity for independent retailers. The main reason for more flexibility for older workers was to help them balance their personal responsibilities and health concerns, and to help them remain in work longer. It’s not too much of a jump to conclude that if we can meet these challenges, we are likely to create a fulfilled and happy workforce. And perhaps they’ll be a happy workforce that can help you sell more.
