Vehicle tax rates change for cars and motorhomes registered after 1 April 2017
There are no changes to vehicles registered before 1 April 2017.
Vehicles registered after this date will have their tax calculated for the first year on CO2 emissions. After the first year the amount of tax will depend upon the type of vehicle and will be £140 a year for petrol or diesel vehicles, £130 a year for alternative fuel vehicles (hybrids, bioethanol and LPG) and £0 a year for zero CO2 emission vehicles. However, vehicles with a list price of £40,000 or more after the first year based on CO2 emissions they will pay the above plus an additional £310 a year for the next 5 years. After 5 years it reverts to the standard rate.
This might be of particular interest to some of our users in the habit when purchasing high value cars.
