Bira concerned over £3k recruitment bonuses being offered by Amazon

Bira has raised concerns over reports Amazon is offering one-off payments of up to £3,000 to entice staff to work for them over the Christmas period.

The online giant is hiring 20,000 positions across the UK, and Bira says small independent retailers - already struggling to recruit staff - will not be able to compete.

Bira's CEO Andrew Goodacre told the BBC he was concerned over the level of wage inflation and bonuses being offered by online retailers such as Amazon.

"This kind of action from Amazon will make it harder still for smaller companies who simply cannot afford such wages," he said.
