Anti-social behaviour (ASB) is a serious problem that can have a significant impact on people's lives. It can make people feel unsafe, insecure, and isolated. It can also have a negative impact on local communities.

Next week is Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week (ASBAW), an annual event that aims to raise awareness of ASB and the impact it can have. The theme for ASBAW 2023 is "ASB: Everyone's Problem."

A recent YouGov survey found that 12% of people have had their mental health affected by ASB, 14% have considered moving home, and 6% have actually moved home because of it. Other impacts of ASB include people taking time off work, feeling unsafe in their local area, and avoiding going to the shops.

The survey also found that people are most likely to see ASB in or around their home (10%), at their local park or playing area (34%), at or around their local shops (28%), on public transport (23%), in their local town or city centre (54%), at their workplace (4%), in schools (7%), and in other places (3%).

If you have been affected by ASB, there are a number of things you can do. You can report it to your local authority, the police, or a third-party organization like Resolve. You can also get support from a range of organizations, including Victim Support and the National Citizens' Advice Bureau.

ASBAW is a great opportunity to learn more about ASB and the impact it can have. It is also a chance to find out what you can do to help tackle ASB in your community.

Here are some tips for tackling ASB:

  • Report ASB to your local authority or the police.
  • Get involved in your local community and help to build a sense of belonging.
  • Talk to your neighbors about ASB and how you can work together to tackle it.
  • Support local organizations that are working to tackle ASB.
  • Educate yourself about ASB and the different ways to tackle it.
