Take part in Green Skills for Small Business, in partnership with Oxford Brookes Business School

The British Independent Retailers Association (Bira) is urging its members to participate in the recently launched sustainability initiative, "Green Skills for Small Business," a collaborative effort with Oxford Brookes Business School. In a bid to reduce carbon emissions and empower small enterprises with the tools to embrace sustainability, Bira is extending the opportunity for its network of small businesses to join this free program.

Announcing the launch of the initiative, Anna, the driving force behind the campaign, stated, "We are delighted to share that we have just launched our new sustainability programme, 'Green Skills for Small Business,' in partnership with Oxford Brookes Business School. We know that small firms have such a huge role to play in helping to lower the UK's carbon emissions, and also that they have a real drive to do so."

The initiative, commencing on November 7 at 11 am, aims to harness the enthusiasm of small businesses across the UK and help them become a collective force for improved sustainability.

A recent study conducted by Small Business Britain and Oxford Brookes Business School revealed that 61% of customers consider the sustainability credentials of a business when making purchasing decisions. In response to this growing trend, Bira, in partnership with Oxford Brookes Business School, has launched the "Green Skills for Small Business" program. This initiative is geared towards small businesses and aims to equip them with the knowledge and skills required to navigate the challenges and opportunities of sustainability.

The program, spanning six weeks, will be delivered by expert trainers, focusing on the following topics:

  • Week 1 (November 7): Sustainability Basics
  • Week 2 (November 14): Sustainable Marketing and Sharing Your Story
  • Week 3 (November 21): Measurement
  • Week 4 (November 28): Green Communities and the Power of Working Together
  • Week 5 (December 5): Financing Your Sustainability Journey
  • Week 6 (December 14): Accreditations and Certifications

All weekly webinars will be recorded, making them accessible to participants for three months after the program concludes. This ensures that small businesses can engage with the content at their convenience.
