#ASBAWARENESSWEEK 3-9 July

Bira will be supporting the Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Awareness Week and is encouraging its members to find out more about how they can protect themselves against unwanted behaviour.

The initiative, which runs from Monday 3rd to Sunday 9th July, has been organised by Resolve and aims to raise awareness about the impact of anti-social behaviour on local communities and encourage collective action to address this issue.

Resolve is a leading organisation dedicated to tackling anti-social behaviour and supporting communities across the UK. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the impact of anti-social behaviour, promote understanding, and encourage individuals to take action to address this issue.

ASB Awareness Week brings together various stakeholders, including community organisations, businesses, and the public, to create safer and more cohesive communities.

According to YouGov statistics from a survey conducted in 2022, 11% of respondents stated that anti-social behaviour has deterred them from visiting local shops. Shockingly, 28% of individuals have witnessed anti-social behaviour in the vicinity of their local shops, with an even higher figure of 54% reporting such incidents in their local town or city centre.

These findings underscore the urgency of tackling anti-social behaviour to safeguard the well-being and prosperity of businesses.

Andrew Goodacre, CEO of Bira, stressed that antisocial behaviour, in any form, should not be tolerated, as it inflicts damage not only on independent stores but on all businesses.

He said: "We stand united against anti-social behaviour, recognising the negative impact it has on the retail sector and the wider community. It is crucial that we come together to address this issue and create a safe and welcoming environment for both retailers and shoppers."

Bira encourages individuals and communities to familiarise themselves with their rights and responsibilities in making their neighbourhoods safer.
