In an age where cybercrime is becoming increasingly prevalent, businesses must remain vigilant to protect themselves from potential threats.
The Cyber Resilience Centre has recently issued a warning regarding a new wave of scams targeting the hospitality sector.
Criminals are impersonating IT providers to deceive unsuspecting retailers and gain access to sensitive information.
Andrew Goodacre, CEO of Bira, has urged retailers to be on guard and be up-to-date with the latest resources to help combat these fraudulent activities.
He said: “According to recent reports from the Cyber Resilience Centre, scammers are specifically targeting stores and restaurants within the hospitality sector. These criminals pose as IT providers and contact businesses, claiming to provide essential services or support. They use various tactics to trick retailers into sharing sensitive data, such as login credentials, financial information, or remote access to systems. This alarming trend underscores the importance of cyber resilience and the need for heightened security measures within the retail industry.”
Mr Goodacre said that retailers needed to be aware of the seriousness of this issue and urged them to take proactive measures to combat the scams.
“It’s important that Bira members, as well as other retailers, remain cautious and take necessary precautions to protect their businesses. Please seek guidance from trusted sources and I encourage everyone to contact their regional cyber resilience centre which can be accessed through our Cyber Security Hub,” he added.
