Bira bosses have said they are eagerly anticipating the opening of a new retail village near Ely, Cambridgeshire, which promises to ‘champion local business’.

The ‘dynamic’ new retail village, which is set to open on the outskirts of Ely near the 2,500-acre Stuntney Estate on June 30, will be called Ben’s Yard and will feature a number of diverse local businesses.

The village, which has been created by Alistair and Victoria Morbey, who were granted planning permission in 2020, was started to be built last year. The family run-business promises to make tenants feel supported and nurtured and offer the best products and services to their guests. Retail on the site will include gift shops, homeware, an electric bike shop, a florist, and restaurants.

Andrew Goodacre, CEO of Bira, expressed his enthusiasm for the opening of the retail village and the positive impact it will have on the local economy.

He said: "We are delighted to welcome this dynamic new retail village near Ely. By championing local businesses and offering shoppers an exciting and diverse shopping experience, the village will invigorate the retail landscape and contribute to the economic growth of the area. We applaud the organisers for their commitment to supporting independent retailers and fostering a thriving retail community."

Mr. Goodacre added that the opening of the retail village is a testament to the resilience and innovation of independent retailers, who continue to adapt and thrive in an ever-changing retail landscape.

Bira remains dedicated to supporting these businesses, offering a range of resources, networking opportunities, and advocacy efforts to help them succeed.
