The forthcoming Budget, a letter to the Chancellor on low-value imports and the consistent issue of retail crime are the areas of focus for Bira this month.
Read the latest update from Andrew Goodacre, CEO
Hello,
This month we have been focused on:
- The forthcoming Budget in November. We are very interested in the announcement for business rates reform and we have expressed fears about the increases that will affect the medium-sized retailers with a rateable value above £51,000.
- As part of the Retail Sector Council I have been leading a group looking at the current duty-free exemption for low-value imports (anything below £135 is duty-free). A letter has been submitted to the Chancellor calling on her to close this loophole.
- We continue to ask for more resources to deal with the ever-increasing problem of retail crime.
Thank you.
Andrew
