The single-use vape ban is coming into effect soon and the Welsh Government have provided guidance to retailers in Wales with June on the horizon.

From 1 June 2025, the sale and supply of single-use vapes will be banned across the UK. This ban is being introduced to tackle the environmental damage caused by these products, which are often littered or end up in landfill.
Retailers in Wales should act now to prepare for the change. This includes phasing out single-use stock and considering reusable alternatives.
What’s changing with vapes?
From 1 June 2025, businesses must:
- Stop selling single-use vape products to customers and other businesses.
- Stop buying single-use vapes from wholesalers.
- Inform staff and customers about the changes to avoid confusion and ensure compliance.
The Welsh Government has contacted small and medium-sized retailers identified as selling or supplying these products, but the ban applies to all retailers, regardless of size or location, across the UK.
Recycling and safe disposal
Retailers with leftover stock after 1 June should:
- Contact suppliers or licensed disposal companies for advice on safe and legal recycling.
- Avoid placing single-use vapes in household or general waste – they contain batteries and mixed materials that pose fire and environmental risks.
- Consider using household recycling centres or authorised waste contractors.
Failing to dispose of remaining stock responsibly may lead to financial loss or legal enforcement action.
