Inspiration for brands, retailers and eateries to get involved in Veganuary 2020.

Launched in the UK in January 2014, Veganuary is a non-profit organisation that encourages people to try vegan for January and beyond. Veganuary is focused on changing consumer behaviours and attitudes while providing all the information and practical support required to make the transition to veganism as easy and as enjoyable as possible throughout the month.

In January 2019, Veganuary is collaborating with the NAHS (National Association of Health Stores), a trade association aiming to promote and protect the interests of the specialist health store and to encourage the proliferation of health food stores – the very shops where veganism began to establish itself. Veganuary recognizes the importance of working with independent shops, to inspire customers and drive footfall towards independent health retailers. The Veganuary campaign with Health Food Stores was created to do just this – help publicize and promote the wealth of knowledge, product breadth and community engagement our pledgers can expect to receive when they visit a local, independent health food retailer.

More than 250,000 people from 159 countries took part in Veganuary 2019 by signing up and taking the pledge, an increase of 49% vs 2018. It is thought that 10 times more people take part in Veganuary than sign up on the website. We call this the ‘Veganuary Effect’.

What does this mean for your retail business?

With so many people participating in Veganuary, and an increasing amount of consumers shopping more consciously for vegan and eco-friendly products, it’s important that small businesses are able to adapt. The vegan UK market is worth over £572 million in 2019, finds Mintel and is no doubt set to grow. Here you can find a toolkit which outlines the many ways that your business can get involved and successfully fulfil consumer demand.

For businesses that get involved and include Veganuary in their marketing activity this year (in any of the many ways listed in this toolkit) - get in touch with them and they’ll feature your logo and a link to your website on their pages. The page, will also be included in their email series that shows participants where they can find great vegan options. Currently, we have over 400,000 subscribers to our email newsletter and we are expecting another 350,000 to sign up this year!
