A growing partnership - Dexam expands licensed range with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS)

Following the success of their first children’s range (Home Grown), Dexam are launching a further children’s range (I Bug You) and two adult textile ranges (Benary Vegetables and Sunflower) for summer 2022.

Fun and playful no matter your age, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) by Dexam collection ties in with Dexam’s commitment towards a more sustainable world. Each piece has been designed with the environment in mind and has taken inspiration from some of the thousands of botanical images held in the RHS’s world-famous Lindley Collections.

Featuring colourful ladybirds, beetles and other insects, the children’s I Bug You range consists of a children’s apron, messy play apron, lunch bag and backpack. The lunch bags, backpacks and aprons are made from recycled plastic bottles via a process that turns the plastic into a durable and practical fabric. The colourful lunch bags and backpacks are the perfect accessories for children to use for their books and lunch. The distinctive bug design appeals to all children who love bright and colourful patterns.

Two adult textile ranges will be launched alongside the I Bug You range and will be available to purchase in late July. The Benary Vegetables range has been designed using the unique vegetable prints from the Album Benary produced by renowned horticulturist and botanist Ernst Benary (1819-1893). The beautiful vintage and colourful textile prints are based on the chromolithograph plates of a variety of vegetables such as carrots, peas, beetroot, cabbages to name but a few. Each brings a splash of colour to the kitchen and are printed onto the finest quality cotton. Items in the range include an apron, double oven gloves, gauntlet, set of 2 tea towels, pot grab and peg bag.

The Sunflower range uses two illustrations from the Lindley Collections – a bumblebee and a Helianthus annuus sunflower. The sunflower illustration comes from a coloured engraved plate in the 1776 publication 'Collection precieuse et enluminée des fleurs les plus belles et les plus curieuses, qui se cultivent tant dans les jardins de la Chine, que dans ceux de l'Europe'.

The artists are unknown however the author of the publication was Pierre Joseph Buchoz (1731-1807) a French medical doctor who also studied, taught and wrote on botanical and natural history subjects. The range also comes in an apron, double oven gloves, gauntlet, set of 2 tea towels, pot grab and peg bag.

Bryony Dyer, Managing Director of Dexam, commented: “We started working with the RHS in 2020 with our Home Grown collection. The RHS is the world’s leading gardening charity. Their vision is to enrich everyone’s life through plants and make the UK a greener and more beautiful place. There is only one Planet Earth, and at Dexam, we recognise our responsibility towards urgently helping make it more sustainable.”

She adds: “We are delighted to partner with the RHS and support them with royalties from our stunning array of textiles and other accessories. We have an extensive Mistletoe Christmas collection featuring textiles and tabletop ceramics launching later this year and more new products in the planning stages for 2023. I look forward to continuing our partnership with them.”

Cathy Snow, Licensing Manager at RHS, commented: “Stylish, useful and a lot of fun, these beautifully designed tea-towels, aprons, lunch bags and backpacks are perfect for kitchens or picnics, while the wit and invention with which Dexam has employed RHS imagery will delight all ages. All the items have also been designed with the environment in mind, a key concern of the RHS. We’re thrilled to have helped to inspire these wonderful new ranges.”
