The latest report from the UK-based Retailers Against Crime (RAC) highlights that groceries, clothing, alcohol and electrical goods were the most sought-after items by shoplifters.
Thanks to monthly data collated and submitted by its members, the RAC is able to track any trends and alert members across the regions, to include Yorkshire and the North East.
In March, there were a total of 900 incident reports, up from 750 incidents the previous month, with 104 unknown suspects identified. There were a further 241 alerts issued across the network. Particular trouble spots in March were highlighted as Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow.
Goods stolen were valued at approximately £122,000, up from £115,000 in February. This included almost £30,000 in clothing, more than £28,000 of alcohol and £10,000 worth of computers. Of that around £52,000 was recovered.
