Shoreham Knitting & Needlecraft invited to reception at Buckingham Palace following 50 years in business
Shoreham Knitting & Needlecraft started as a small knitting business in 1972 working from home and progressing into opening their first shop in 1976 where the business sold only knitting machines and coned yarn.
In 1983, they moved to a much larger premises and after having success, were able to purchase the freehold of the building. Shoreham Knitting & Needlecraft then expanded into handknitting yarns and ceased selling knitting machines. Due to the development of their business, they had to change the name as they were formerly known as “Shoreham Knitting Machines”.
Shoreham Knitting & Needlecraft then formed a close association with Rowan yarns in 1978, who were based in Holmfirth, Yorkshire, at the time. After continuing the close relationship for all these years, they are now their oldest stockist both in the UK and globally.
In 1997, the business started its own knitting website know as English Yarns - www.englishyarns.co.uk. This has continued to thrive and is a valuable addition to the traditional bricks and mortar shop. All the staff are naturally very keen knitters themselves and as a specialist shop, the business receives visitors from all over the world which bought on excitement to be able to meet customers face to face, where some had originally been online customers that pay them a visit when in the UK.
The traditional British business diversified by exporting all over the world during the Corona virus lockdowns which in turn increased business by 5 fold as people needed to occupy themselves whilst they stayed at home.
After all these years in business, Shoreham Knitting & Needlecraft were invited to a reception at Buckingham Palace.
