Kwasi Kwarteng, the new Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, has written to Bira acknowledging the need to rebuild the high street post-pandemic.
The letter was in response to one written by Bira CEO Andrew Goodacre requesting Mr Kwarteng support the independent retail sector, and - among other measures - extending business rates relief.
Mr Kwarteng outlined his priorities which included leading the drive to support businesses and foster innovation across all parts of the UK; delivering the Government's net zero ambitions, building on the Energy White Paper and the Prime Minister’s Ten Point Plan (for a green industrial revolution).
He also said: "I am grateful for your views on retail and the high street and I look forward to working with you as we rebuild post-Covid-19 pandemic."
Andrew will meet Mr Kwarteng on Tuesday (February 16) ahead of further talks with business ministers on Wednesday (February 17).
